Purpose
The Rotaract Peace Conference in Sarajevo brought Rotaractors from the Rotaract Europe and Rotaract Mediterranean MDIOs together to discuss and develop peace project initiatives in countries recovering from inter-ethnic conflict, on the path towards youth inter-ethnic reconciliation, and to spread the values of tolerance, protection and freedom across the Rotary community.
The choice of host city placed the conversation about inter-ethnic reconciliation in a place that has lived it — and made the first edition of the conference a lasting one.

Speakers
Dr Peter Neuner
Rotary Club Freistadt, District 1920, Austria · multiple Paul Harris FellowPeter Neuner is a gynaecologist by profession and has written many academic papers and publications, including “Reducing Maternal Mortality” and the “Obstetric Fistula Treatment and Prevention Project”.
For many years he has been active within the Rotarian Action Group for Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health (RMCH). His main field of action is now Nigeria, where he works against child mortality and maternal death.
Born in Linz, Austria, he studied medicine at the University of Vienna and qualified as Doctor of Medicine in 1982, later becoming Medical Consultant for Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Linz with a focus on oncology, endometriosis and gynaecological urology.
Bilal Al Ayoubi
Co-founder, Rotaract Mediterranean MDIO · Program Director, Community Support ProgramBilal is Program Director on the Community Support Program (CSP), funded by USAID and implemented by Chemonics. He holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Economics with distinction from the Lebanese American University, and a certificate in NGO Management from SOAS, University of London. He worked at the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office, then at Chemonics and Development Transformations, before consulting with many INGOs and UN agencies. He founded SHIFT NGO in Tripoli in 2015.
He joined the Rotaract Club of Tripoli El Mina in 2004 and served in different roles including club President in 2006/07, Vice District Rotaract Representative in 2007/08, and District 2450 Rotaract Representative in 2011/12, leading 85 clubs across 10 countries. He was appointed by RI President Ron Burton to the International Rotaract Interact Committee in 2013/14. Bilal is one of the founders of both the Rotaract Mediterranean MDIO and the Rotaract Academy.
Marwa Abou Dayya
Founding partner and consultant, Design and Business Development Unit, Beyond GroupMarwa catalyses initiatives for public management and policy research in sectors related to women and youth empowerment, social entrepreneurship and innovation, education, and local governance, at both local and national levels. She has over a decade of experience designing strategic plans and leading organisational development and change management processes for public institutions, local government bodies and international organisations.
With more than 10 years of expertise developing capacity-building programmes and learning modules, Marwa is recognised for her design and facilitation skills in experiential learning programmes. She facilitated the workshop at the MDIOs Peace Conference.
