After a nice summer rest, this year began with a running start. Alongside „Klub Mladih Split“, an organisation that gathers the youth of our city and helps them grow by helping those around them, we put up an auction of photographs made by the members of Photoclub Split, as well as students of the Academy of Arts. All the contributions went to COO Juraj Bonači, a center that helps educate and take care of children with various sorts of disabilities and impairments.
We gave a helping hand to the children of Krušvar, a village that is only a 20 minute drive away from Split. Our country has sadly exhibited a negative demographic trend, and for most of Dalmatia, we had less firstgraders enroll in primary school than we did last year. Krušvar proves to be the sole exception to this. Since most of the children came from families with socio – economic difficulties, we gathered some donations from our fellow Rotaract members in other cities, as well as some private companies in our hometown, and bought a bunch of essentials for the beginning of school. It was truly heartwarming to see the childrens’ faces light up when they got the most basic and necessary things for their education. We extended some presents to their older colleagues as well, to brighten up their day and help lessen the weight of the already heavy bill for their parents.
We’ve managed to go through with this in the first month. What’s next on the agenda, you may ask? Well stay tuned. We are working on a small dinner party that should go down soon – and everyone’s invited, especially Rotaractors and students. You can expect a great venue, food and drinks, partying, music – and of course, another opportunity to help those in need. We hope to hear from you, and we look forward to seeing you in our future events – who knows, maybe even next year? 😉
